Each year, hundreds of spectators descend on Picacho Peak State Park on the way to Tucson to watch re-enactments of an Arizona Civil War skirmish and the New Mexico battles of Glorieta and Val Verde. The event takes place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 15-16 at Picacho, 60 miles south of Phoenix off Interstate 10 at Exit 219.

The three historic battle re-enactments are complemented by more than 200 costumed re-enactors, who will be camping at the park with complete with authentic period camping gear, displaying a variety of lifestyles among soldiers in the Southwest during the 1860s. Food and beverage concessions are also available, including kettle corn.

There is a $10 per vehicle entrance fee good for up to four people; additional people are $3 each. For information, call (520) 466-3183 or visit AZstateparks.com/parks/pipe.
