It might be easier to list the number of Mountain Pointe defensive players who have missed games than those who have not.

With that said the unit has managed to survive for the most part.

There have been some mistakes, some coverages blown and big plays give up but as the season comes to a close there are a bunch of young players coming together.

"We are growing as a defense and we are finding where people better fit and tweaking some things around," Pride defensive coordinator Jeff Decker said. "I t is working better for us."

Decker said getting the right people in the right spots can be a difficult thing and as a coach you have to be willing to adjust.

"As the season progresses you are going to have injuries that you have to work around," he said. "So many things can happen and you have to find the right combinations where they can contribute the most."

The good news is that senior middle linebacker Jordan Leal could possibly be cleared to return from a knee injury for the Week 9 game at Mesa Mountain View and senior linebacker Nick Griffin was expected to see his hand specialist earlier this week with hopes of returning in time for the potseason.
