Imagine Prep in Surprise will perform “Seussical Jr.” this weekend.

The musical is based on the famous Dr. Seuss books, with a musical twist. The original ran on Broadway for seven months but has become more popular because of families’ love of the stories.

Performances are 7 p.m. Friday and 1 and 6 p.m. Saturday.

The show is being performed at sister school Imagine Rosefield, 12050 W. Bullard Ave., Surprise, at the corner of Cactus Road and Bullard Avenue. Tickets are $5 presale and $7 at the door. Tickets are available at Imagine Prep and Imagine Rosefield schools from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

Imagine Prep Drama Club formed in August 2009 with a cast of 25 students ranging from 7th to 11th grade. This program stemmed from the successful drama club at Imagine Rosefield. This year’s cast has grown to include 43 students ranging from 7th to 12th grade. They have been working together since August to help bring Broadway to Surprise.

Lisa Raby, a teacher at Imagine Rosefield, will produce the show, coordinating all the students, parents and teachers. The show is directed and choreographed by two moms, Lisa Bria and Meredith Todd, who both have professional experience in theater and dance. Kristine and Chris Mitchell have worked with the students on stage presence and set construction. Several parents including Stephanie Percy-Fine and Trina Neumann sewed the costumes.
