If you want to make a difference where you live, consider taking part in the city's Blight Buster Volunteer Program through the Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department (NSD).

Free training takes place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at the NSD West Facility, 3325 W. Flower St.

Volunteers will learn how to clean up alley ways, remove illegal signs and graffiti, use GPS cameras to report blight, and work with other volunteers to help keep neighborhoods clean and safe and maintain property values.

The March 8 session is the first of four free classes. After completing the training, each volunteer will be issued a city volunteer ID, a uniform, technical equipment and other resources necessary for volunteer assignments.

For more information, call (602) 495-0323 or e-mail blight.buster.volunteer.nsd@phoenix.gov.
