After having an Ahwatukee Foothills-based baseball team made the big-school state title game five times since 1999, this year’s tournament finished up without one.

Chaparral beat Brophy in dramatic fashion on Tuesday when Dylan Cozens hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning for 5-3 win.

It was a great game and as it turns out, Ahwatukee was represented.

Brophy senior Nick Jewett is a resident. He was a starter all year long for the Broncos and hit a home run in the title game to help erase an early deficit before Cozen’s dramatics.

It capped off a quality season as Jewett hit .383 (31 of 81) with 24 runs scored with 10 doubles, five home runs and 25 RBIs.

He also made five appearances on the mound and finished with a 3.23 ERA in 8 2/3 innings with six walks and three strikeouts.
