Mountain Pointe softball coach Mel Wendell resigned recently and told the players on May 23, according to athletic director Ian Moses.
Wendell has been named the science department chair, which had a hand in her stepping down after seven seasons.
The Pride returned to respectability this season and had some young talent at the forefront of the resurgence so it will be an attractive opening for area coaches.
Mountain Pointe went 13-17 this season and was in position for a Division I playoff spot until the final week before missing out.
