Registration open for race to benefit expectant moms

Whether you're a professional runner or just want to have some fun while supporting a good cause, registration is now open for A Race for Maggie's Place (MP9K) happening Nov. 13 at the Arts Park at Tempe Town Lake. This family-friendly fundraising event is now in its third year and benefits Maggie's Place, a Phoenix-based non-profit that offers houses of hospitality to pregnant women who are alone or on the streets.

The MP9K was founded by running enthusiasts and longtime Maggie's Place supporters Julie and Paul Kent and is being supported by a variety of local businesses and organizations that are providing running bags, physical training for current and alumnae Maggie's Place moms, and prizes for an exciting raffle.

The fundraising event features a 9K signature run (to represent the nine months of pregnancy), a three mile walk/stroller push, a large free kids' dash and a 10K race sponsored by U-Haul to commemorate Maggie's Place's 10th anniversary.

Early registration is encouraged. Registration fees are $20 through Sept. 14, $25 through Nov. 11 and $30 until the day of the race. The kids' dash is free.

For more information, visit www.maggiesplace.org and click on the MP9K link on the left hand side. To learn how you or your organization can volunteer with the MP9K, e-mail racedirector@race4maggiesplace.com.
