The 12th annual Arizona Young Artists’ Competition, a collaboration between the Herberger Theater Center and Center Dance Ensemble to recognize aspiring young performers in the areas of acting, voice and dance, announced its 2011 winners.

Glendale resident Sarah Ambrose took home the top honors in the vocal category. Ambrose is a student at the Arizona Conservatory for the Arts & Academics.

Other winners included Elliot Brietta (acting winner) and Katey Konderik (dance winner).

A panel of judges selected four finalists, ages 15-18, in each category to participate in the finals competition March 26 at the Herberger Theater Center. The winner in each discipline received a $1,000 cash award. The Arizona Young Artists’ Competition showcases the diverse and emerging talent of young Arizona artists, introducing them to the audition process and providing them with an opportunity to interact with highly regarded arts professionals.

The Herberger Theater Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and foster the growth of the performing arts in Phoenix as the premier performance venue, arts incubator and advocate. The Arizona Young Artists’ Competition is one of the Herberger Theater’s Youth Outreach Programs.
