The conception that no one knows or appreciates an artist until he’s gone doesn’t hold water with Peter Max.

The artist has painted for six U.S. Presidents, adorned 145 million Verizon phone books with his images of Lady Liberty, and been an official artist of five Super Bowls, The World Series, The U.S. Open, The Indy 500, The New York City Marathon, the Kentucky Derby and, oh, yes, the Grammy Awards.

A collection of Max’s work will be displayed March 23-24 at DeRubeis Fine Art in Scottsdale. There, the artist will unveil his new “Masters” series — interpretive works of Vincent Van Gogh, Monet, Pablo Picasso, Renoir, and Edgar Degas in Max’s signature color and style.

In addition, the show will contain Max’s iconic portraiture of celebrities and pop culture luminaries, including Taylor Swift.

Max will appear at the gallery 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 23, and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 24. Appearances are open to the public and complimentary, but RSVPs are requested to (888) 513-8385.

DeRubeis Fine Art is at 7171 E. Main St., Scottsdale. For information, call (480) 941-6033 or visit RoadshowCompany.com.
