A 24-year-old ex-con accused of committing numerous burglaries was arrested in a Mesa neighborhood sitting in a stolen car on Tuesday as police say he was coming off a high from using heroin the night before.

Ben Perry Davis, who was on parole, was arrested on suspicion of auto theft, burglary and aggravated DUI about 10:40 a.m. in the area of Sterling and Glencove. A resident of the Falcon Hill neighborhood had noticed a suspicious vehicle parked on Glencove, and after calling police and providing them with a license plate number the car was discovered to be stolen, police said.

Davis, who was apprehended after police set up a perimeter around the neighborhood, told police the car was stolen and that he had used heroin the night before. At the time of his arrest, Davis admitted to committing a number of crimes, including burglary, throughout Mesa.

Officers discovered evidence in the car that possibly was from burglaries Davis said he had committed in the area of Recker and McKellips roads, and that he also was wanted by police in connection with a burglary in the Dobson neighborhood.

In February 2009, Davis was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for burglary and an aggravated DUI, but was released in April. His next parole review date was scheduled for March 19, 2011.
