Sixty-two nominations from 18 Arizona communities were submitted in six categories for the 32nd annual Governor’s Arts Awards — honors given to individuals and businesses who have made substantial and outstanding contributions to arts and culture statewide. The East Valley has quite a few names in the running.

Maria Isabel Delgado (Chandler), Bruce Marion (Chandler) and Fredric Myers (Apache Junction) were nominated as artists. Barbara Nueske Perez (Gilbert) is in the running in the “Arts in Education-Individual” category.

Arts organizations and businesses vying for an award include Copperstar Repertory Company (Chandler), LDVinci Art Studio (Chandler) and Southwest Ambulance (Mesa). Mesa Arts Center has been nominated for a community award.

Winners will be announced on Wednesday, March 6, at The Herberger Theater Center, 222 E. Monroe St., Phoenix.

The Governor’s Arts Awards are presented by Arizona Citizens Action for the Arts in partnership with the Arizona Commission on the Arts and the Office of the Governor.
