The town of Gilbert has kicked off its campaign to collect more than 76,000 meals for areas families.

Gilbert launched the Gilbert Feeding Families Community Food Drive with a special event on June 4 with a bag-off competition featuring local leaders like Mayor John Lewis, State Rep. Warren Petersen, and Supervisor Denny Barney.

The drive spans the month of June, and the goal is to collect 76,200 meals — the figure represents the town’s 76.2 square miles — to donate to the United Food Bank. The food bank will in turn donate the meals collected to Gilbert families.
