The Mesa chapter of Newborns in Need is collecting diapers, fabric, yarn and Ivory soap to help babies at 20 Valley hospitals.

Items can be donated to the nonprofit at 10 a.m. the first Friday of every month at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 1415 E. Southern Ave. in Mesa, or at 10 a.m. on the third Friday of every month at the Esperanza Lutheran Church at 2601 E. Thunderhill Place in Ahwatukee.

Newborns in Need is also preparing for the seventh annual Big Baby Shower, which will be held at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 3 at the Esperanza Lutheran Church. People who attend the event will be able to make blankets, bibs, hats, mittens, quilts and baby clothes.
