House Speaker Andy Tobin is weighing whether to have the Legislature sue to void the legislative and congressional maps crafted by the Independent Redistricting Commission.

Tobin said there is evidence that the five-member panel did not follow legal procedures in drawing the lines. He also said the resulting maps do not comply with the law.

The move comes as the Senate on Wednesday gave final approval to giving the commission an extra $700,000 to pay its bills through the end of the budget year on June 30. Several Republicans complained, saying the commission wasted money fighting a lawsuit over the Open Meeting Law.

HB 2862 now goes to the governor.
