Ahwatukee Republican Women will host a Phoenix Mayoral Candidate Forum Tuesday featuring Republican candidates running for Phoenix mayor.

“We have an election coming up in August so we want to prepare for it,” said Loraine Pellegrino, president of Ahwatukee Republican Women. “We want to use our programs to educate our members on candidates and upcoming elections.”

The May 24 meeting will be at the Grace Inn, 10831 S. 51st St. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for social networking and the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public, just like any other meeting the club hosts.

Claude Mattox, Wes Gullet, Peggy Neely and Jennifer Wright will all be present at the forum. Because the group is a Republican organization, only Republican candidates were invited, even though this is a non-partisan race.

“We are the Ahwatukee Republican Women. We reside in Phoenix,” Pellegrino said. “This is our mayor’s race. It’s important to get to know the candidates. I suggest people see them multiple times in various contexts before you make a decision.”

Wright is the latest candidate to enter the race. She has been actively campaigning since May 8 and has already appeared in debates with other candidates. This will be her second debate in the Ahwatukee Foothills area.
