Authorities say a man stole an ambulance outside the Chandler Police Department after his release from custody on a misdemeanor citation.

Chandler police spokesman Joe Favazzo says 33-year-old Cesar Garcia of Guadalupe had driven the emergency vehicle to his home after he was released Sunday on a misdemeanor charge of having an open container.

He was arrested a short time later.

It's unknown why the ambulance was parked outside the police station.
