Made in the Shade Beer Tasting Festival

This 22nd annual fete brings together brewers from ten states, including Alaska, Hawaii, Louisiana and Colorado, to pour samples for a good cause: Sun Sounds of Arizona. Every dollar raised helps the nonprofit connect print-disabled locals with their communities.

Along with about 50 breweries, you’ll find food and live entertainment. Make an overnight trip of it if you’re a Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers fan; the band plays the night before the beer fest at the same venue, a natural “bowl” nestled in the greenery of the forest.

DETAILS >> 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 15. Pepsi Amphitheater at Ft. Tuthill County Park, 2446 Ft. Tuthill Loop. $45-$55 general admission includes 24 sampling tickets and a souvenir mug. Designated driver tickets are $15. VIP admission, $80-$90, is available. (928) 779-1775, AZbeer.com or PepsiAmp.com.

Outdoor Festival

The cure for being cooped up with the air-conditioning on and curtains drawn awaits at Mormon Lake Lodge, a pine-clad retreat on the shore of picturesque Lake Mary 30 miles south of Flagstaff.

Head there for a cool breath of relief — and this festival featuring free fishing, archery, live reptile and wildlife exhibits, and other outdoorsy activities to stretch your legs after a long drive.

Once you’ve toured all the booths, go exploring. The remote lodge sits on 300 pretty acres, which you can roam on foot or via half- and full-day mountain bike and canoe rentals ($14-$36). Replenish the gang’s energy stores in the on-site steakhouse, saloon, pizzeria or coffee shop before pointing the car back to the Valley.

DETAILS >> 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 14. Mormon Lake Lodge, 1991 S. Mormon Lake Road. Free. (928) 354-2227 or MormonLakeLodge.com.

Park Place Guitar Festival

Exhibitors will offer row upon row of music and guitar-themed stuff to see and do throughout Park Place Mall during this rocking indoor festival, where a full lineup of live guitar performances and jam sessions — not to mention an air guitar competition — will keep you entertained.

Those with more than a passing interest will find clinics, ranging from how to care for a guitar to how to compose for the guitar, while artistic types will appreciate GuitART, the chance to paint and decorate acoustic guitars.

Activities for kids include make-your-own instruments, guitar origami and balloon animals, and a “petting zoo” of world instruments from the Valley’s Musical Instrument Museum.

DETAILS >> 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 14. Park Place Mall, 5870 E. Broadway Blvd. Free. (520) 797-3959 or Saaca.org.
