“Brigadoon” at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre plays through Feb. 11.
There will be a special New Year’s Eve performance Saturday that will include a cabaret show following the performance. Tickets for New Year’s Eve are $99 per person.
Set in the Scottish Highlands in the spring of 1935, this lavish production features the Lerner and Loewe score, including the songs “Almost Like Being In Love,” “Come to Me,” “Bend to Me” and “I’ll Go Home with Bonnie Jean.”
“Brigadoon” tells the story of a mysterious Scottish village that materializes for only one day every 100 years, though to the villagers, the passing of each century seems no longer than one night. The enchantment is viewed by them as a blessing rather than a curse, for it saved the village from destruction. No one from Brigadoon may ever leave, or the enchantment will be broken and all its inhabitants will disappear into the mist forever. Two American tourists, lost in the Scottish Highlands, stumble upon the village just as a wedding is about to be celebrated, and their arrival has serious implications for the village’s inhabitants.
The original production opened on Broadway in 1947 and ran for 581 performances. The 1954 film version starred Gene Kelly, Cyd Charisse and Van Johnson.
“Brigadoon” is directed by ariZoni award winner M. Seth Reines with choreography by Dottie Lester White. The production features set design by Tom Tutino, costume design by John P. White, lighting design by Russell A. Thompson, orchestrations and musical direction by JR McAlexander and sound design by Chris Kockler. The roles of Tommy and Fiona are played by Valley locals, husband and wife Jason Fleck and Jeannie Shubitz. The role of Jeff is played by Victor Legarreta. The cast also includes Jesse Berger, Alyson Bloom, Robyn Bydalek, Billy Casey, Michael Dinneen, Maris Fernandes, Jim France, Roy Hunt, Shelley Jenkins, Traci McCormick, Lynx Murphy, Sal Pavia, Mark Richards, Morgan Springer and bagpiper William B. Cooley.
