If you’ve wanted to take the kids to Phoenix Art Museum but have worried about their attention spans, Sunday’s the day to take the plunge.
Walkabout, an event celebrating world cultures, starts at noon with deejays spinning music and artists creating new works live on canvas.
A wide variety of entertainment — African drumming and dancing, flamenco performances, Japanese flute music — will take place indoors and out. You’ll also find storytelling, “Hair & Make-up Inspired by Art” from Kohler Academy, and hands-on activities like sketchbook making and Chinese brush painting.
The galleries will be open for perusing art, too, including
1 p.m. mini-tours of the newly opened Frank Lloyd Wright exhibition.
And lest you think Walkabout is just for kids, “ARTenders” will pour drinks from a cash bar at the museum’s Dorrance Sculpture Garden.
DETAILS >> Noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Phoenix Art Museum, 1625 N. Central Ave. Included with museum general admission of $10-$12 for adults, $6 for children ages 6-17. (602) 257-1222 or www.phxart.org.
