“Anne Frank: A History for Today,” opens Sunday at the East Valley Jewish Community Center in Chandler.
The exhibition juxtaposes photographs of the Frank family — who, along with four others, spent 25 months during the Holocaust hiding from the Nazis — with historical events of the time.
It also shows how persecuted people like the Franks were affected by both individual and political action.
The show, a traveling exhibit on loan from the Anne Frank Center in New York City, came through once before, in 2008. This time, it’s paired with “Whoever Saves a Single Life ... Rescuers During the Holocaust,” an exhibit from the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous.
“It’s stories of those who rescued Jews and others, people who put themselves on the line to save someone else,” says EVJCC spokeswoman Courtney Griggs.
There’s also a “Faces of Tolerance” art installation of masks created by local children from the Boys and Girls Clubs.
Griggs says the offerings take about 45 minutes to tour with a docent. Reservations are strongly encouraged, and the center can take group tour requests.
