A man who was described as a transient was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Friday after he was struck by a car while walking through an intersection.

The man, whose name was not available, was crossing the street in the 700 block of South Alma School Road about 5:45 p.m. and was hit near West Drummer, causing him to hit the hood, windshield and roof of the car. The driver of the vehicle, who said he did not see the pedestrian, pulled into the parking lot of a nearby convenience store and called police.

The pedestrian, who police say was under the influence of alcohol, was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital with multiple broken bones in his legs and a severe head injury.
