Starting July 9, the City of Phoenix will be changing the trash and recycling schedule to same-day pick ups.

The switch from two separate pick ups will save the city an annual $1.3 million, Mayor Greg Stanton said.

Stanton said in a statement this week that the switch is considered to be “more sustainable by reducing the number of routes,” in addition to its cost consideration.

While the new schedules won’t affect every household in the city, an estimated 400,000 Phoenix residents that rely on the city’s services will see the changes.

According to the City of Phoenix, those residents were notified of the revamped pick ups last month.

Residents are asked to place their containers four feet apart on the curb for collection days, which, as usual, should be out by 5:30 a.m.
