Urban AZ’s first Spoken Word Showcase brings together a range of poetic performers, along with R&B artists Dwele and Bilal with a band, at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix.

Featured spoken word poets include Jessica Holter, host and founder of the Punany Poets, a mix of comedy, politics and sexual satire that's appeared on HBO, BET, Playboy TV, London’s Channel 5 and Cinemax.

Holter, a.k.a. Ghetto Girl Blue, will share the spotlight with a variety of spoken word performers, including Serena Richardson, a.k.a. Wisdom Soul, who hosts the online radio show "The VYBe" on and was instrumental in organizing Arizona’s first All-Female Hip Hop Showcase.

Adding to the evening’s line-up is winner of the Spoken Word Album of the Year award at the 2012 National Poetry Awards, Truth B Told.

Grammy nominated music artists Dwele and Bilal, a Philadelphia native with an extensive list of collaborations including Common, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z and The Roots, will also perform.
