One man is dead and another in critical condition after they were both hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross Broadway Road near Country Club Drive in Mesa early Sunday morning.

Mesa police are looking for a teal-green Honda passenger car, possibly a two-door Civic, with an unknown license plate. It lost both side mirrors and likely sustained severe front-end damage before leaving the scene of the collision about 2:30 a.m., according to a statement from Mesa police spokesman Edward Wessing.

The pedestrian who died suffered extensive injuries, including a severed leg that may still be with the vehicle that fled the scene, Wessing said.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or the collision can call Mesa police at (480) 644-2211.
