The Arizona State University School of Music in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts welcomes special guests Jeff Nevin, mariachi expert and ASU alumnus, and his group Mariachi Champaña Nevin for a presentation of ¡Un Saludo Musical a México! from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, in Gammage Auditorium, located at Mill Avenue and Gammage Parkway in Tempe.

The concert will feature traditional mariachi music and classical compositions from world-renowned composers and celebrates Mexico's Bicentenario de la Independencia and 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. The ASU Orchestra and Symphonic Chorale will also participate.

Local artisans will present their crafts, and there will be a special display of mariachi history, costumes and instruments.

Tickets, $8.50 to $15.50, are available by calling (480) 965-3434 or visiting asugammage.com.

Nevin is offering a free pre-concert workshop for local music teachers and college and high school students from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Oct. 7. To pre-register, e-mail adrienne.goglia@asu.edu.
