The Chandler-Gilbert Community College library in partnership with the Creative Writing Club will kick off National Poetry Month at 7 p.m. Thursday with poetry readings by creative writing faculty from Maricopa Community Colleges. Then at 6:30 p.m. April 21, CGCC will host its third annual Poetry Slam Competition.

Both events are free and will be held on the first floor of the library at CGCC, 2626 E. Pecos Road, Chandler.

Thursday’s event will feature readings by faculty members Jimmy Berlin and Jacquelyne Kibler of Phoenix College, and Renee Simms of CGCC.

Students and community members of all levels of experience are invited to share their poetry at the slam competition later this month. Entry guidelines can be obtained by calling Kim Chuppa-Cornell at (480) 732-7022 or online at http://www.cgc.edu.
