It was great to see information about the importance of shopping local and how important it is to our community ("Shopping local is important to Ahwatukee," AFN, March 6).

Just last week I was introduced to a website called www.localfirstaz.com and the great directory of local business. Local First Arizona includes all sorts of great information, including a study that shows spending $100 with a local business, $73 stays in the local economy, and the same $100 spent on a non-local business, only $43 stays in the local economy. There are significant environmental, economic and cultural benefits of strong local economies.
