The Property Owners and Residents Association of Sun City West offered residents ideas on how to live green, live healthy and live better at its annual Vendor Expo on Saturday.

More than 70 vendors gathered in the R.H. Johnson Recreation Center social hall to give the community information on anything from solar products, to plumbing, and health and fitness. More than 1,000 residents attended.

Gayle Moeller, PORA marketing coordinator, who helped plan the event along with her co-worker Cheryl Gorden, said the goal is to give residents an opportunity to meet with companies in the area and get ideas for ways to improve their homes or lifestyle.

The home improvement and solar products booths were popular Saturday, Moeller said, as were Sun Valley Animal Shelter and 4 Paws Animal Rescue, which were also represented at the event and told people about their programs and volunteer opportunities

“We’d been hoping for maybe 500 people, and we’ve had well over 1,000,” Moeller said.

Cathy Beyer, owner of The Skylight Guys, said the event went well for her company; the most common comments she heard were ‘thank yous’ for work they had already done.

Since the homes in Sun City West are primarily older homes, and the housing market is still slow, Beyer said many people simply want to make improvements where they are.

“People want to improve or renovate what they have,” she said.

Residents who stopped by the event also appreciated learning more about local businesses, which helped Cindy Cyganiak, the design consultant at Marcella’s Interiors and Custom Upholstery in El Mirage.

“That’s a real big plus,” Cyganiak said. “Turnout’s been very good. I feel like it’s been a really successful show.”
