Celebrate sights, sounds of Ireland at fundraiser in Phoenix

On Saturday, The St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee and Arizona Colleen and Rose of Tralee Selection will present the 2nd annual Arizona Colleen Fashion Show and Fund-raiser at The Irish Cultural Center, 1106 N. Central Ave., Phoenix.

Doors open at 6 pm. Events are from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for children under 12. Purchase tickets at www.azcolleen.org; click on "Events" [online ticket purchases automatically create a reservation.] All tickets will be held at Will Call. Reservations must be made by Aug. 11.

Jenny Knatz, Arizona Colleen and Arizona Rose, is back from Ireland with photos and a fashion show to share. Although not advancing to the Rose of Tralee International Festival, Knatz is inviting the public to help sponsor the next launch of Little Miss Shamrock, ages 6-12; Arizona Irish Lass, ages 13-17; and Arizona Colleen ~ Arizona Rose, ages 18-27.

Crudités with dressing, fruit platter and watermelon gazpacho will be available as appetizers. There also will be grape tomato salad with mozzarella and pesto dressing; entrées will be braised short ribs in a Guinness brown sauce, or poached salmon with lemon and dill; side dishes will be mashed red garlic potatoes and summer squash; and dessert will be berry sorbet. Tea, coffee, lemonade, water and a cash bar will be availalble.

Raffle includes picnic basket for 4 from Tradewinds Catering and selections from Ireland's Newbridge Silverware.

Entertainment will be by Arizona Irish Lasses Maeve Cionci Shannon Kelahan-Pierson, Little Miss Shamrocks Tessa Henrich MacKenzie Moore Kosslow and more.

Chef Frank Hand of Tradewinds Catering is donating his time and full-course dinner.

2011 Arizona Colleen and Arizona Rose Jennifer "Jenny" Knatz  is a 22-year-old ASU history major whose dream is to one day be a youth librarian where she can "kindle and rekindle a passion for reading in young people." She also received the President's Scholarship Merit Award, was selected for the Dean's List, sings soprano in the ASU choir, and has studied French and Japanese.

From Mesa, her hobbies are photography and baking, and she currently holds a black belt in Tang Soo Do, a Korean defensive martial art. She feels passionate about learning and believes knowledge can greatly improve the state of the world. Her Irish heritage is derived from the maternal side, hailing from Northern Ireland.
