Like many other Ahwatukee Foothills kids, Travis Witt spends his summer days at Kyrene de las Lomas Elementary. He is enrolled in Kids Club there, an all-day program to keep kids busy during the long days of summer.

Kids Club is a summer camp that parents can enroll their elementary school children in, and in a variety of ways to best fit their schedule. It’s from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and during that time kids get a full spectrum of activities.

In addition to games and play time, Kids Club employees also focus on the academic side. Such as on June 7, when three groups of students rotated between Science Club, Fun with Fitness, and Art Club.

In Science Club, the students learn through experiences and will be making displays for a science fair later on in the summer.

“The club offers all-inclusive results,” said Wally Gordon, program coordinator of Kids Club. “They are getting a lot from it. It’s fun and games, but they do learn as well.”

In Fun with Fitness, kids are taught yoga and zoomba and take “brain breaks” throughout the day.

Each camp has a different theme every week and in addition, they take the kids on field trips.

“My favorite thing is the field trips and playing games with my friends,” Witt said.

There are many different options for summer opportunities for Ahwatukee Foothills families. Kyrene also offers full-day camps for middle school students, and a half-day summer academy from 8 a.m. to noon, for all ages.
