Arguably the biggest meet remaining before sectionals and the state championship races commences on Friday (Oct. 4).

The 7th edition of the Desert Twilight Invitational will be held at Toka Sticks Golf Course in Mesa during the late afternoon/evening.

The races bring most Arizona schools and from a few surrounding states to Toka Sticks, where 19 races will be run from 4 p.m., and the top eight races with high school athletes will run between 7:15 p.m. and 9:25 p.m.

Schedule: 7:15 p.m.: Girls small school varsity (school enrollment of 1,800 or less); 7:30 p.m.: Girls large school varsity (enrollment more than 1,800); 7:40 p.m.: Boys small school varsity; 7:55 p.m.: Boys large school varsity; 8:25 p.m.: Girls championship; 8:40 p.m.: Boys championship; 9 p.m.: Milesplit girls sweepstakes (top 25 teams as determined by a committee); 9:25: Sole Sports boys sweepstakes (top 25 teams as determined by a committee).

Among East Valley participants (and there are many), Campo Verde is defending girls' large school varsity, Chaparral is the defending champion in boys' large school varsity, and Xavier is the Milesplit girls sweepstakes champion at the elite level.
