Twice a year, two distinct cultural groups — foodies and penny pinchers — meet on common ground, or more accurately, at local restaurants.

May 18 kicks off the first of these semiannual rituals known on the street as Arizona Restaurant Week. This 10-day food fete gives skinflints and foodies alike the chance to eat delicious prix-fixe dinner options from more than 100 restaurants in the Phoenix area, along with a handful in Tucson. The restaurant list includes Lon’s at the Hermosa Inn, TQLA in Mesa and Porkopolis Barbeque and Cork in Chandler.

Participating restaurants offer a three-course dinner in the $30-$40 range, with a handful offering a meal-for-two at that price. Since the event spans five weekdays and two full weekends, Valley residents have plenty of time to do some “bucket list” eating at restaurants previously untried.

ArizonaRestaurantWeek.com offers a complete list of participating locations, but tech savvy folks might want to check out the free DINEAZ app to map their dining schedule on the go. Reservations are not required, but to ensure yourself a seat during this busy week of eating, they are highly recommended.
