You can’t accuse downtown Mesa of being sleepy or quiet when the Mohave Muleskinners come to town.

The group, made up of more than 150 authentically costumed Old West enthusiasts from Arizona and neighboring states, will stage gunfights in the streets and provide raucous interaction with spectators Friday and Saturday at Mesa Old West Days.

The outdoor celebration of Arizona’s frontier era includes a Cowboy Fast Draw Competition, old-time blacksmith demonstrations, rides and activities for children, and a marketplace of Western merchants and artisans. There’s also a chili cook-off and food and drink vendors.

Bands Paydirt, The Crosstown Cowboys and Red Mountain Bluegrass Band will provide live music.

The East Valley Tribune is a sponsor of Mesa Old West Days.
