It’s hard to outgrow that wind-in-your-face freedom that bike riding brings. This weekend’s Great Arizona Bicycle Festival in downtown Mesa seeks to re-capture some of that childlike fun with two days of bike-centric activities along with food, games, and live music.

The festival kicks off 6 p.m. Friday, April 5, with a one-mile criterium race and continues Saturday with the El Tour de Mesa, a bike swap, an historic bike tour, a 200-foot zip line, a rock wall, hot air balloon rides and a professional BMX freestyle show. Families with children will appreciate the kids zone and bicycle safety rodeo, while adults will have a play area all their own with cornhole, oversized jenga and tricycle races.

Bands including Black Bottom Lighters, Lee Perreira, One Drop from San Diego, Poolsyde, Weird is the New Cool, Jared and the Mill and Lane Change rock the center stage throughout the weekend. Food and beverage vendors will also be on site.
