Churches across Ahwatukee Foothills have options to keep kids busy this summer with day camps locally and week-long camps in the woods.

In town

Mountain Park Community Church, 2408 E. Pecos Road, is holding sports, arts and crafts, and dance camps for all ages June 6-9. Camps for first- and second-graders will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Third- through fifth-grade camps will be from noon to 2 p.m. Each camp costs $120. The first $50 is due May 31. Mountain Park Community Church is also hosting Student Union Summer Nights every Wednesday in July for current sixth through 11th-grade students from 6 to 8 p.m. These nights will be filled with games, worship and breakout sessions of different topics. There is no sign up or cost for SU Summer Nights.

Mountain View Lutheran Church, 1002 S. 48th St., will be hosting bible and musical summer classes. Musical Vacation Bible School will be June 6-10 for kids entering first through eighth grades. Vacation Bible School will take place June 13-17 at the church from 9 a.m. to noon. Bible school is for children 4 years old, who have been through one year of preschool, through fifth grade.

Both classes cost $40 per child, with discounts if parents volunteer, and a $100 maximum per family. The class will go from 9 a.m. to noon with afternoon care available.

The church will host another day camp, Lutheran Campus Ministry Day Camp, June 20-24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. This day camp is for children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. The camp will include arts and crafts, worship, games, music and service projects. The cost is $75 per child. Out of town

St. Joseph's Youth Camp has been operating for more than 60 years in the pines near Mormon Lake. The camp is offered in three weekly sessions. Teen week for kids 13 to 15 is July 3-9. Weeks for kids 8-12 will be July 10-16, 17-23 and 24-30.

St. Joseph's offers kayaking, rock climbing, arts and crafts, astronomy, horseback riding and much more. The camp hopes to teach children team work and good values.

The cost is $498, but kids can win a free week at camp if they win an essay contest. Entries for the essay contest must be postmarked by April 15. Kids can also get a reduced rate of $450 if they register by May 1. For more information, go to www.sjycaz.com or call (480) 449-0848.

Midde School CAMPfirmation, hosted by Mountain View Lutheran, is a five-day camp in Prescott, Ariz. Kids can participate in activities like mountain biking, kayaking and many other games and activities. The camp will go from July 3 to 8 and costs $275 per student.

High School Beach Camp, also hosted by Mountain View Lutheran, will be July 18-22 in Fountain Valley, Calif. Teens will have a chance to spend days at the beach and a day at Six Flags. Registration is $255 per student and can be found at www.mvluthern.org beginning April 24.

Mimp 2011 is a mission trip and summer camp hosted by Mountain Park Community Church. Current ninth through 11th graders will go to Forrest Falls, Calif. to serve younger students at camp, June 1-6. Summer Camp 2011 will take current sixth- to eighth-grade students to Forrest Falls, Calif. from June 2-6. The camp includes volleyball courts, basketball courts, a trout pond, mini golf, climbing wall and more. Current high school juniors and seniors can also submit an application to be a Junior Counselor for the summer camp.

Servant Leadership Trip from Mountain Park Community Church will take 12 eighth-grade to 12th-grade students to Hollywood for a week of intense service for the homeless in the area. From July 10-17 the students will serve during the day and learn Christ-based leadership by night. There is a pre-requisite for the trip.
