Mesa drivers will have to contend with a series of delays over the course of 2014 as the city revamps one of its water lines.

The Val Vista Transmission Main Project, which began Jan. 13, involves the installation of a 72-inch water transmission main from the Val Vista Treatment Plant from McDowell Road to Brown Road, which travels along Lindsay Road. That portion of the project fits into its first phase, and the installation project includes the installation of a 60-inch water transmission main along Brown Road between Lindsay Road and 24th Street.

Although the new line won’t have a direct effect on the lives of Mesa residents, city Marketing Communications Specialist I Michele Doberstein said the project will improve on the delivery of water to and from the Val Vista facility.

“It’s a very old line, and they are basically improving it,” she said.

As a result of the project, traffic restrictions and closures will pop up throughout the ensuing months of 2014, after the first restriction began Jan. 7. Hermosa Vista Drive, for example, was closed at Lindsay Road between Feb. 19 and Feb. 21.

Funding for the project came through a bond approved by voters in 2010, and the project will cost more than $3 million.
