There will soon be a new museum around these parts: Scottsdale Museum of the West.

Construction is expected to begin late this month on the museum, which will boast five galleries showcasing paintings, sculptures and cultural artifacts that depict the ever-evolving American West, from cowboys on horseback to historic roads like Route 66.

Pieces by famed artists Carl Oscar Borg, John Coleman, Maynard Dixon and the like will take the spotlight at the two-story, 40,000-square-foot space. It’s being built at the northwest corner of Marshall Way and First Street in downtown Scottsdale. Completion is targeted for December 2014.

For information, call (480) 312-2367 or visit ScottsdaleAZ.gov.
