Everest College Phoenix has appointed Jack Lunsford to serve on its board of trustees. The appointment expands the board to seven members, five of whom are independent higher education community leaders. Lunsford will serve a two-year term on the board.

Lunsford served 20 years as the founding director of government relations and external affairs for Maricopa Community Colleges. Reporting to the chancellor, he was responsible for federal, state and local government affairs and public policy development for the district and its 10 colleges and education centers.

Lunsford is the retired founder, president and CEO of Westmarc, a regional coalition of business, government, education and community organizations in Western Maricopa County.

A native Arizonan, Lunsford was one of the youngest in the state to hold an elected office and served as the youngest assessor in Arizona history, after being appointed Coconino County Assessor in 1977 at the age of 26.

Over the course of his career, Lunsford held two elected offices and several appointed offices, including six years as chair of the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education. He was appointed by three different governors to the State Council for Vocational Education and was re-appointed by Gov. Jan Brewer to serve a second term on the Citizen’s Transportation Oversight Committee.
