A freeze watch is in effect for parts of the Valley through Friday morning. The area includes deserts near Phoenix, Casa Grande, Superior and Globe.
Temperatures could dip to the 20s in the deserts, according to the National Weather Service. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water lines and destroy or damage crops and sensitive vegetation.
The high temperature Friday could be near 47 under mostly sunny skies, with lows around 30 Friday night. The New Year's Day high will be near 51, with nighttime lows in the low 30s.
