As we continue to receive news of an "economic slowdown," it's hard to tell that such an event might be occurring by the Valley's ever expanding restaurant industry. One bright blip on the radar screen is Biscuits Restaurant, celebrating its first successful year of business in Ahwatukee Foothills. While many places serve a strictly provincial menu, Biscuits recipes are culled from all corners of the "USA." The recipes of good old-fashioned home cooking come to Ahwatukee in a casual setting. Completely remodeled, the restaurant looks and feels new and different from other eateries. In its relaxed, country atmosphere you can chose from a wide range of breakfast or lunch items. Biscuits, 4623 E. Elliot Road, is open for breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come check out their "Friday Night Fish Fry" and "Sunday Night Dinner" from 3 to 7 p.m.

Another even newer addition to Ahwatukee's food scene is Wedge & Bottle. This unique shop, at 4025 E. Chandler Blvd., Suite 44, has been in business nearly three months after opening its doors at a ribbon cutting event on May 3. Wedge & Bottle offers a vast selection of domestic and international wines and cheeses, to be enjoyed with a friend at lunch or later in the comfort of your own home. If you are more of a beer person you can choose from a number of beers that go well with cheese. Wedge & Bottle also offers a build-your-own sandwich option, where you can try a wide variety of luscious cheeses pared along with a number of the shop's specialty meats. You can also make a night of it by choosing from an assortment of different party trays arranged in a number of different sizes for guest parties from three to four or 10 to 12.

Another new addition to the Ahwatukee community is Spinato's Pizzeria. This family owned and operated restaurant first came to the Valley nearly 30 years ago when Ken Spinato decided to uproot his family from Illinois to bring Arizona some of the joys of Chicago-style pizza. Since the restaurant originally opened in 1974, Spinato's Pizzeria has been drawing guest in with its incredible Italian dishes. The company has grown tremendously since opening, expanding their company from one location to five, with their newest location being in Ahwatukee. This new pizzeria, at 4848 E. Chandler Blvd., has already caught the appetites of the Ahwatukee community and has no problem bringing customers back for more.

Whether it be a family breakfast, a delightful summer luncheon with friends, or dinner for the whole family, these bright new businesses offer something unique and special for everyone, and are definitely worth checking out.
