Imagine the stresses of the work week — and the errands, chores and obligations of the weekend — melting away amid soothing music — and chocolate.

It could happen this weekend at Chocolate Sunday, a concert and dessert reception put on by East Valley music group Symphony of the Southwest.

The ensemble will play classical selections, while the audience indulges on a variety of desserts from East Valley Institute of Technology Culinary School, Cucina di Vita Italian Deli in Mesa, Gilbert Costco and Starbuck’s.

The event is a fundraiser for the 56-year-old symphony, which performs classical and pops concerts at Mesa Arts Center and stages Sergei Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” for more than 7,000 East Valley public and charter school children each year.

DETAILS >> 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. East Valley Institute of Technology, 1601 W. Main St., Mesa. $25 at the door; proceeds benefit the symphony. (480) 827-2143 or www.symphonyofthesouthwest.org.
