Neighborhood standoff ends with gunman in custody
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Police took a man into custody Tuesday after a foot chase ended with the lockdown of a quiet Ahwatukee Foothills neighborhood where police surrounded a home in the 1400 block of East South Fork Drive.
Taken into custody and booked in jail on two existing felony warrants was David Lemont Lasker, 23.
Sgt. Leonard Piñuelas said it all began when a citizen made an anonymous call of a man with a gun at a gas station at Marketplace Way and Chandler Boulevard around 2:45 p.m.
When police arrived they say Lasker ran into the neighborhood, at one point pulling a black semi-automatic handgun out of his pants as he escapeed into the area near 14th Place and South Fork Drive, according to officers at the scene.
Police kept residents indoors as they talked with Lasker's relatives before he finally exited the home and was taken into custody around 3:45 p.m.
As a precaution police locked down Kyerne de los Cerritos Elementary and Altadeña Middle School.
"We had to get down behind our desks," said David Volant, 13, an 8th grader at the school. But quickly the full lockdown was modified to a partial lockdown where students could sit at their desks while waiting to be picked up at the school.
Police were still investigating the initial report of Lasker pointing a gun at the gas station.
