Drunk teen arrested after shooting up neighborhood
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A teen who police say was drunk and wandering around the area of Equestrian Trail and the South Warner-Elliot Loop early Tuesday, randomly firing a .22-caliber revolver, was arrested after damaging businesses and vehicles.
Police say the 15-year-old boy, who lives in the 1200 block of Honahlee Court, was upset at his parent's separation.
He also told police that the gun he used was stolen.
"He told the officers he had stolen the gun from a car the day before," said Sgt. Joel Tranter, a spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department.
It started around 1:30 a.m. March 18 when police received reports of shots being fired around Appaloosa Drive and Equestrian Trail. When officers arrived they found spent .22-shell casings but no suspect, Tranter said.
Officers also heard additional shots nearby. As they were searching the wash near Kyrene de las Lomas Elementary School, officers received a tip from a passing motorist.
"A citizen directed officers to the 12020 block of South Warner-Elliot Loop at Equestrian Trail, to a barber shop where police found the suspect hiding in a raised planter," Tranter said.
Nearby they found the .22-revolver that, according to police records, had been stolen the day before.
Officers also discovered that the Domino's Pizza store had been shot up, along with a car in the Lomas parking lot.
The teen was charged with violations of Shannon's law, which makes random gunfire a crime, as well as misconduct with a firearm and other charges, Tranter said.
