Special to AFN

The Sixth Annual Car Show and Inaugural Motorcycle Show at the Ahwatukee Community Swim and Tennis Center is still a month away, but a food and toy drive leading up to the event is scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 2.

The car show will be held Saturday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Community Center will be accepting non-perishable food and toys beginning Nov. 2 and ending the day of the show. Last year, the center donated over 72,000 meals to needy families and is hoping to surpass that number this year, special events coordinator Lisa Robinson said.

Those interested in the show can register their cars and motorcycles for $10 before Nov. 13, after that registration bumps up $12. The event will be judged and prizes will be awarded in 14 classes and categories, such as Sponsor’s Choice and Best of Show.

Admission to the event will be frozen turkeys, non-perishable food items and new unwrapped toys. St. Mary’s Food Bank will have a truck on site for the turkeys and food and two U.S. Marine officers will be present to collect the toys for Toys-for-Tots.

A raffle, live music from A Boy Named Sioux and The Line Up, food, spirits and concessions will all be part of the day’s festivities.

The Community Center is located at 4700 E. Warner Road.

Healthcare reform
In a final push for a sweeping healthcare overhaul, President Barack Obama urged a simple "up-or-down" vote on the legislation. What would your vote be?
Up! Let's get this thing passed already!
The proposals look good on paper, but I'm still hesitant about its execution.
Down. It's time to go back to the drawing board.
