Corks will be popping at the Ahwatukee Foothills’ annual Wine and Beer Tasting Festival this weekend.

About 50 types of beer and wine plus food from 20 restaurants will be available for sampling at the event, which is one of two major fundraisers for the community’s Festival of Lights holiday display.

There will also be 130 items available for bidding at a silent auction. Several of those items are being packaged in unique ways, like four Cardinals tickets with steaks and a 30-pack of beer being sold as a tailgate party or a giant inflatable packaged with a keg of beer and tables and chairs going as a block party, event volunteer Dixie Prosser said in a news release.

One new addition this year will be a Bling Raffle, where a $20 purchase of cubic zirconia earrings will put you in the running for a $1,000 tanzanite pendant necklace donated by Michael’s Creative Jewelry.

Plus, old favorites at the festival will be packaged and sold in a new way. Instead of a few big, expensive alcohol packages at the auction, there will be a number of smaller baskets with a variety of goodies ready for purchase.

Organizers are hoping for a good turnout at this year’s event, which normally brings in around $30,000 to $35,000 of the $93,000 it takes to put on the mile-long light display. Due to last year’s economy and one big fundraising event being rained out, the group started down $10,000 for this year’s display.

Tickets for the wine tasting are still available for $40 through www.folaz.org, at any Ahwatukee Foothills Safeway or at the Ace Hardware at Chandler Boulevard and Desert Foothills Parkway. The festival is from 7 to 10 p.m. this Saturday, June 5, at The Foothills Golf Club, 2201 E. Clubhouse Drive.

There are also spots left for the  Festival of Lights Charity Golf Tournament, which tees off at 7:30 a.m. June 5 at The Foothills Golf Club. Registration is $100 for individuals or $375 for a foursome through www.folaz.org.
