The Itty Bitty Beach Party at Pecos Pool this Friday will feature dance contests, swimming, free lunch, a puppet show and lessons on water safety.

The event will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on June 28 in partnership between the city of Phoenix and Cigna Healthcare.

Kids 6 and under and their parents are the target audience for the event. There will be a water safety puppet show, CPR demos, and vendors sharing water safety messages.

While the ultimate goal is to remind kids and parents of water safety, Becky Hulett, aquatics director for the city, said the event is designed to be fun.

“It’s a great time for the whole family to enjoy the water, the music, the dance contests and get information on water safety,” she said. “You have free lunch, puppet shows, it’s really just a great time to bond and play in the water in a safe and fun environment.”

Cigna Healthcare sponsors free summer events for all ages throughout the summer. Cub Club is for ages 7 to 10 to learn basic water safety skills. Discovery Guards is for ages 10 to 13 to learn basic first aid, rescue breathing and safety around water. Junior Lifeguard Training allows kids ages 13 to 15 to be exposed to lifeguard techniques and become fully trained in CPR. Cigna’s Lifeguard Academy is available for kids over the age of 15 to learn all the skills necessary to get their certifications to become a lifeguard.
