THIS JUST IN: Cunningham guilty in apartment murders

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Matthew Cunningham sat quietly as five guilty verdicts in a row were read Wednesday afternoon.

It took the six-man, six-woman jury just two-and-a-half days of deliberation to find Cunningham, 30, guilty on two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of burglary with a dangerous weapon. All charges stemmed from a knife-wielding spree through the Andante apartment complex in 2004.

The trial will continue next week as the jury hears additional testimony before deciding if the murders legally meet the requirements for the death penalty.

For more information see the Feb. 1 issue of the Ahwatukee Foothills News.
