Police arrest rape suspect near victim abduction site
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Phoenix police arrested a suspected rapist at the same location, where less than 24 hours earlier, he had met his victim.
Arrested was Jorge Aurelio DeAvila-Lucatero, 25, who lives in the 4200 block of East Raven Road.
Police say DeAvila-Lucatero was responsible for a physical attack April 20 and a sexual assault May 9.
According to Sgt. Joel Tranter, "He did make admissions during the interview connecting him to both crimes."
The sexual assault occurred around 2 a.m. on May 9, Tranter said, when the 57-year-old victim left her apartment in the 4400 block of East Chandler Boulevard and went to a nearby gas station to buy beer. There, police say she met DeAvila-Lucatero and they began chatting. Later, the two returned to her apartment complex and sat outside by the dumpster drinking beer.
"At one point the guy grabs the victim and sexually assaults her," Tranter said.
Police put the gas station where the victim met DeAvila-Lucatero under surveillance and around 12:50 a.m. the next night, May 10, where they saw him hanging out. He was taken into custody without incident.
Tranter said DeAvila-Lucatero also matches the description of an attacker from April.
In that case a man, who identified himself as "Jorge," met a 27-year-old woman April 19 at RA near 48th Street and Ray Road and struck up a conversation. Later, as she was leaving, he asked for a ride, directing her to the area near 44th Street and Chandler Boulevard.
When they arrived at what he said was his house, police say DeAvila-Lucatero tried to kiss the women, who pushed him away and he punched her.
DeAvila-Lucatero then grabbed her throat and she began honking the horn, attempting to summon help, which Tranter called, "A very smart thing to do."
Police booked DeAvila-Lucatero on two counts of kidnapping, sexual assault, aggravated assault and sexual abuse.
