CRIME

An off-duty Phoenix firefighter has been arrested on suspicion of hitting a teenager with his pickup truck then leaving the scene.

Maricopa County Superior Court paperwork shows the teenager was Rollerblading in a crosswalk when he was hit Saturday afternoon at 19th Avenue and Union Hills Drive.

The driver left the scene, but was followed by witnesses. Police arrested 56-year-old Mark Nehrenz. He was booked for leaving the scene of an accident.

Nehrenz was being held on $10,000 bond.

Fire department spokeswoman Michelle Miller says Nehrenz is on administrative reassignment pending the conclusion of an internal investigation.

Nehrenz is a nearly 34-year veteran of the Phoenix Fire Department.
