Herb Cook, executive director of La Estancia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, recently accepted the Innovative Program of the Year award from the Arizona Healthcare Association in recognition of La Estancia's new state-of-the-art orthopedic rehabilitation program.
La Estancia, 15810 S. 42nd St., was purchased in March 2008 by Preferred Care Partners Management Group of Plano, Tex., from Evergreen Healthcare Management Group.
Cook, former owner of Plaza Healthcare, is changing the concept of the 192-bed skilled nursing facility. Deiatra Goldsberry, RN, is the new Director of Nursing and together they have selected quality RN's, LPN's and CNA's to care for patients in the Orthopedic Unit. Sixty-eight semi-private rooms have been remodeled into 28 bed private suites with wood floors, new paint, 32-inch televisions and new designer furniture.
All the staff are specifically trained in rehabilitative care. The physical, occupational and speech therapy rehabilitation team are on site seven days a week to care for patients' rehab needs. Cook has also begun partnering with orthopedic surgeons to provide intense rehab for post-surgical patients.
